  To get to the University of Glasgow

• (N.B. there are 4 universities around Glasgow, others being Strathclyde, Caledonian, and Paisley a.k.a. University of the West of Scotland).
• From the railway station, find the underground (ask people, look for a big orange U). (2 maps of central Glasgow, with railway stations; and underground stations marked U Map 1   Map 2
• Take the underground to Hillhead station.
• On coming out of the underground station, turn right on the street (Byres Road), then first right up Great George Street, which becomes quite a steep hill.

  To get to Computing Science (for staff offices, and the old conference room)

• About the second turn on the right is Lilybank Gardens. Take the upper side, with the terrace houses facing the green.
• The entrance to Computing Science is no.17 at the far end. OR the adjacent, connected, modern glass Sir Alwyn Williams Building. (Computing Science is D14 on this map and D16 on the campus map or look at a photo.)
• For the conference room, go up the stairs to the first floor, then wind along to the Conference Room (F121).

  To get to Computing Science for GIST and other seminars

• About the second turn on the right is Lilybank Gardens. Take the upper side, with the terrace houses facing the green.
• The entrance to Computing Science is just beyond the far end: the adjacent, connected, modern glass Sir Alwyn Williams Building. (It is between D14 and D3 on this map and between D16 and D3 on the campus map.)
• Seminars etc. are usually on level 4 in SAW-423; or on the top floor (level 5): there's just one big space there (technically SAW-502).

  To get to Steve Draper's office, in the Hillhead Street Terrace

• Either: go to top of Great George Street, and right at the T-junction; enter about 6 doors along on the right hand side.
• Or alternatively: find the University Library (tall tower), which is on the pedestrianized part of Hillhead street. Uphill a few yards, and along the non-pedestrianized part of Hillhead street; enter about 4 doors along on the left hand side.

• Enter at 62 Hillhead Street. The entrance is labelled "School of Psychology & Neuroscience"

• For my office:
  Short version:
  • From the entrance go up one storey (to "level 4").
  • At the very moment you step on to level 4, turn left down a very short corridor and there you are: room 401/2.
    (Room numbers do not follow a wholly obvious sequence.)
  Detailed version:
  • (In at the entrance 62 Hillhead Street.)
  • As soon as you can, turn to the right and up the stairs.
  • The stairs have two short flights (ignore the left turn on the half landing) and you arrive on level 4.
  • Turn immediately left down a very short corridor: room 401/2 is at the end (on the left).
  If you get lost:

  • Recovery procedure (bug fix):
    • Find level 4 somehow (all the room numbers start with '4').
      (If the nearest room starts with 5,6,7 then go down; if it starts with 2 or 3 then go up at least a bit.)
    • Find room 424 on the main level 4 corridor.
    • This is almost directly opposite the side corridor containing my room 401/2 (It is also at the head of the stairs up from the no.62 entrance). Go down the side corridor to my room 401/2.
  • The sign makers can't, or anyway don't, find a way of using an arrow to express things like "you want to go to directly below this sign one floor down" which would actually be clear because it is fixed to the bannisters of the small stairs so you could see what this means.
  • Signs to groups of rooms may have mistakes on them (although they have been improved recently).
  • Room numbers do not always follow an obvious sequence. (Because while there is a continuous corridor from end to end on each level, there are side passages; AND because the end to end "main" corridor has to loop round some stairwells, causing most of us to lose our sense of direction, and follow the turns that go through the fewest fire doors; which is not always correct.)

  School of Psychology and Neuroscience Places

• Hillhead Street site, entrance no.62 In the terrace opposite E4 on this or this, or D18 on the campus map.
• Boyd Orr Building, 3rd floor, called "Level 5". D1 on this map and also on the campus map.

• Psychology seminars: the seminar room (529), level 5, no.62 Hillhead St.
  
  • (In at the entrance 62 Hillhead Street)
  • As soon as you can, turn to the right and up the stairs
  • The stairs have two short flights (ignore the left turn option on the half landing)
  • Turn immediately right towards further stairs up, and take them to go up again to the second (level 5) floor
  • The seminar room is directly facing the top of the stairs: room 529.
  • (Another meeting room is 605).

  To get to the Learning & Teaching Centre (for a LTC seminar)

• Find the library, walk along Hillhead and turn down the first street on the right (Gibson)
• Find the corner of Southpark Avenue and Gibson street (first crossroads down from Hillhead street)
• Southpark House is in its own grounds set back on one of the corners there. E5 on the campus map
• The usual seminar room is on the ground floor adjacent to the front door.

  To get to the Research club / postgraduates' club

• A26 on the campus map: Main building: entrance facing the main entrance past the lodge from University avenue

  To get to HATII

• 11 University Gardens (George Service House)

  To get to the St. Andrew's building i.e. the new Faculty of Education building

  on the boundary of Kelvingrove park, Gibson Street, and Woodlands Road: main entrance on Eldon street, where the building faces on to the roundabout and the pub "The Primary" (postal address 11 Eldon Street, Glasgow, G3 6NH. Janitors: ext.1909.):- It is E14 on the campus map.
• Directions:
• Go down Gibson Street over the river Kelvin to the mini-roundabout on Woodlands Road (by the pub "The Primary"). St. Andrews building is now close on your right;
• Seminars are often held upstairs in room 433.
• The gym (some exams are held there) is on the ground floor, at the university (west) end of the building. There is an entrance right beside it, so it is unnecessary to go in the main entrance and back along the ground floor.

  Charles Wilson building

  This is a newly converted church, at the intersection of Gibson Street, Bank Street, and Kelvin Way; it is E15 on the campus map, opposite the Glasgow student Union (not the QM), and adjacent to Film and Theatre Studies (which is E9 on the campus map and this map) in another converted church.

• The lecture theatre is on the ground floor, ahead as you enter the building (and also upstairs to enter at the back of the auditorium).
• The seminar rooms are in the basement.

  Turnbull

  There is a Turnbull room in the main building; but also a Turnbull Hall at 15 Southpark Terrace housing the catholic chaplaincy (E11 on the campus maps: quick or via here).

  To get to Main (Gilbert Scott) Building

• A10, A16, A13, A6, A5, A6, A7, A8 A14, A15, A12, A9 on the maps: quick or quick-2 or via here).

• Find University Avenue: a sizeable road running from the traffic lights half way down Byres road over the hill and down to Kelvin Way and Gibson street. (See this map or the campus map.)
• The main gate and gatehouse are exactly at the brow of the hill, beside a double set of pedestrian traffic lights.
• Enter through the main gate (near A21) and bear left along the front of the main building:
  OR enter through the other large iron gates (near A11) a few yards east along the Avenue.

  How to get to the West Quad

  map
• Go in through one of the large open stone doorways near the information office, either side of A12 on this map
• Go up the wide stone stairs at the back, to emerge in a corner of one of the two Quads, which are grass rectangles separated by an open cloister.
• (The West Quad is at A6 on the map.)

  To get to Bute Hall

  The Bute Hall is above the cloisters between the Quads of the Main Building.
• Go to the main building
• Enter by left hand (east) undercroft
• Go up the stairs to the Quads
• Use the entrance at the top of the stairs for the Hunterian museum
• Go up the wide staircase towards the museum
• Turn left away from the museum

  To get to the Randolph Hall

  The Randolph Hall is above the cloisters between the Quads of the Main Building, joined to the Bute Hall, but best entered from the other (south, Senate Room) end. (This also leads to the Turnbull, Melville, Carnegie and Senate rooms.)
• Go to the main building
• Enter by either undercroft, and go up to the Quads.
• Enter and go the far end of the cloisters (stone pillars, roofed over but open to the sides).
• Continue through the glass doors, then find the big staircase through more doors to your left.
• Go up the big stairs one floor.
• Turn left, through large doors.
• The Randolph hall is through doors to your right.
  (The Senate room is straight ahead some way; the Turnbull, Melville, Carnegie and Senate rooms all lead off this short corridor.)

  To get to the Fore Hall

• Go to the main building
• Enter by either undercroft, and go up to the Quads.
• Turn right, across the West Quad,
• Find the entrance to the left of the chapel, and it's up one floor. Roughly.
• (A8 on the map)

  Alternatively (but exam candidates may be directed to the Quads entrance):

• Go to Professors' Square ("The Square" on the campus map)
• Look at main building (which forms the East side of the square) and identify the Chapel
• Go up the broad entry stairway to the right of the Chapel
• Inside, the Fore Hall is immediately on your right

  To get to Kelvin Gallery

  N.B. There is a Kelvin Building; Kelvin Gallery; Kelvin conference centre; Kelvin building common room; Kelvin meeting room (11 The Square); ....

  The Kelvin Gallery is a room with this name in the university, in the main (Gilbert Scott) building (A7 on the new campus maps).

• Go to the main building
  Either
• Enter for the old staff club; and go up the stairs to level 4.
• (If you have an exam in the Kelvin Gallery) Enter by right hand (west) undercroft, go up to the quads, turn right, find doorway "E" in the NorthWest corner.
• Enter door "E", and go up the stairs to "level 4" (you will find signs).
  Or for non-exam purposes
• Enter by right hand (west) undercroft (leading up to quads), but take the lift on the right (opposite the Information office).
• Take lift to level 4

• Go up to the Quads
• Use the entrance at the top of the stairs for the Hunterian museum
• go up the wide staircase and into the museum
• turn left and go through to the Kelvin Gallery.

  To get to the McIntyre Hall

  The John McIntyre building is on University Avenue right beside the Main Gate. It also contains the bookshop. (A22 on the map)
• Go to the John McIntyre building.
• Enter from the street
• Turn left and straight ahead of you is the McIntyre Hall.

To get to CAPEL (Academic development, Strathclyde University)

• Get to the centre of Glasgow: Buchanan Street underground or Queen Street railway station are about 10 mins. walk from the room.
• Walk east along George Street to the entrance at no.50 (NOT no.40) George Street to the Graham Hills Building, Strathclyde University. (There is a public car park opposite.)
• (Inside the door) go up the stairs one floor; enter at the sign for CAPEL.
• The usual meeting room is through two sets of fire doors then an immediate U-turn to your right.

To get to CRIL / ILRG (Psychology, Strathclyde University)

• Get to the centre of Glasgow: Buchanan Street underground or Queen Street railway station are about 10 mins. walk from the room.
• Walk east along George Street to the entrance at no.40 George Street to the Graham Hills Building, Strathclyde University. (There is a public car park opposite.)
• (Inside the door) turn right, go up to level 5; follow signs for Centre for Research into Interactive Learning.
• Room 593 (Graham Hills Building, Strathclyde University)

To get to Gcal's Academy (academy, Glasgow Caledonian University)

• Go to Cowcaddens, and the campus entrances on Cowcaddens Road. map of where in Glasgow
• Enter the middle (pedestrian) entrance (Britannia building on your left)
• (campus map)
• At the end of the building on your right, turn right and on to the ramp immediately there sloping up the side of the building.
• Enter the building by the first doors (off the ramp) you come to (even though it doesn't look promising).
• Go through all the glass doors in front of you (up a few steps), and again through more wide glass doors into a large area: this is the Academy.
• Look for someone to ask about where the person or meeting you want is. (It's only a small unit and a handful of people.)
