So: The form method guarantees the var settings are seen. It doesn't have to take up any space (maybe a line). The use of an HREF within a form allows the appearance of a link rather than of a button. This probably only works for pages that have that Java routine? The use of the FORM action="x" allows a jump to any page. But the "url?x " form for use of a link with no form is unreliable as the receving page may or may not parse that bit of the addr.
